Restaurants and supermarkets often have unsold food. What happens to it after closing time? Sadly, most of it goes into the trash. The managers of Eataly Canada, a large chain of restaurants, wanted to stop this. They felt uncomfortable about throwing away still-edible food every day. Therefore, they decided to use an app from the "Too Good To Go" project to stop food waste. They keep unsold items and put them into a "magic bag." Customers can pick up these bags from the restaurant.
The Too Good To Go project was set up in Denmark in 2015 by Thomas Momsen. He saw a restaurant dump a lot of leftover buffet food after closing time, and he wanted to make a difference. He and four friends created the Too Good To Go app. It allows people to buy a magic bag when a restaurant is going to close for the day. The app lists restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and supermarkets. All are willing to sell their unsold food products at about a third of the normal prices. Customers choose a place on the app and order a magic bag. It typically costs between NT$95 and NT$165. They cannot choose specific food items, but the fun lies in the surprise.
