Hi, I'm Jessica. Welcome to my 200 square feet of lovable living space in New York City. I moved from a space in L.A. that was probably three times as big as this, so it really simplified my life. It's great because my space is so small I can literally sit on the toilet, wash my hands, do my laundry all at the same time.
I'm a composer, so this isn't just my home—it's also my workspace. So a big challenge for me was trying to fit a full 88-key keyboard in here, and that was a necessity. So I decided instead of having a big kitchen table, I would do this super-cool foldout console table, and then push my keyboard against it. So when I have people over, I just pull that aside and I can take this table out, and it sits six people, which is brilliant, because I love to host people and I love to cook.
Take you guys over to my desk space here... Again, this has to be a functioning space for me, so I just, you know, get online and do all my work stuff and work on my compositions here.
I mean, being creative is being creative—it's seeing the big picture. And a lot of that is why I love living in a space and decorating a space—just seeing everything not in its place in a crazy way but just "Oh yeah, that looks good there," or "Oh yeah. Look at the sun shining through the trees that way. That's so beautiful." And I wanna see that come out in my music, and that's just how I...I wanna live life literally just walking around like that.
