Phrasal verbs? Hold on. Let me check in with my English teacher, and I'll get back to you.
片語動詞?等等。我聯絡一下我的英文老師,然後再回電給你。
Oh! Hey! Did you know there's a type of verb you may be using your entire life without even knowing it? It's called a "phrasal verb."
噢!嘿!你知道有一種你可能用了一輩子但卻不自知的動詞嗎?那叫作「片語動詞」。
Phrasal Verbs
片語動詞
So, what is a phrasal verb? A phrasal verb includes a verb and, usually, a preposition. These combine to make a super verb. And if you've been speaking English your whole life, you use these all the time. Check it out.
那麼,什麼是片語動詞呢?片語動詞包含一個動詞,通常還有一個介係詞。這些加起來就變成一個超級動詞。如果你這一生都是說英文,你會一直用到這些片語動詞。來看看吧。

"Hold on," "check in," and "get back to" are all phrasal verbs.
Hold on(等等)、check in(與某人聯絡) 和 get back to(給某人回電話)全是片語動詞。
Hey, Michael! I thought we were gonna run out for lunch?
嘿,Michael!我還以為我們有個午餐約會?
Don't get saucy with me, Tom. We're gonna have to catch up later.
不要對我那麼兇,Tom。我們得晚點再碰面了。
Oh, geez!
真是的!
Here are some popular phrasal verbs: "ask around," bring up," "check in," "find out," "give away," "look forward to," and... Freak out!
這裡有一些常見的片語動詞:ask around(四處打探)、bring up(提起)、check in(報到)、find out(查明)、give away(分送)、look forward to(期待),還有... Freak out(嚇死人)!
Let's get back to grammar. There are two types of phrasal verbs: separable and inseparable. Separable phrasal verbs can include words between the verb and the preposition without changing its meaning. One sec! I gotta take this.
回到文法。片語動詞有兩種:可拆式片語動詞以及不可拆式片語動詞。可拆式片語動詞可以在動詞和介係詞之間加字,但卻不會改變原本的意思。等等!我得接一下這通電話。
Hey, Tom! Thanks for calling back.
嘿,Tom!謝謝你回電。
"To call back" is a separable phrasal verb. You can include the word "me" in between the verb and preposition, and it still makes sense.
To call back(回電)是一個可拆式片語動詞。你可以在動詞和介係詞中間加上 me(我)這個字,而意思還是合理的。
Sorry, Tom. I was hoping to drop by later.
抱歉啦,Tom。我原本想說晚點去拜訪的。
"To drop by" is an inseparable phrasal verb. When you try including a word between the verb and preposition, it doesn't make sense.
To drop by(順道拜訪)是不可拆式片語動詞。當你試著在動詞和介係詞中間加上一個字時,就變得不知所云了。
Uh, sorry again, Tom. Uh...okay, great! Sounds good! Cool. All right. Okay. Bye, Tom. Mmm...bye, Tom. Okay, I'm gonna hang up, Tom. I love you too, Tom.
呃,再跟你道歉一次,Tom。呃...好,好啊!聽起來很不賴!可以啊。好的。嗯。再見,Tom。嗯...再見,Tom。好,我要掛電話了,Tom。我也愛你,Tom。
"To hang up" is also inseparable phrasal verb. Gee whiz! This is fun. Congrats! Whether you like it or not, you use phrasal verbs all the time, which is not to be confused with nasal verbs.
To hang up(掛電話)也是一個不可拆式片語動詞。哇!這超有趣的。恭喜啦!不管你喜不喜歡,你無時無刻都在用片語動詞,可別和有鼻音的動詞搞混囉。
