Where am I? What is this? Oh, an iPad, ooh.
我在哪?這什麼?喔,一台 iPad。
Welcome back to Weekly Words! This week, let's talk about love idioms.
歡迎回到《每週新字》!這個星期,我們來說說和愛情有關的片語。
To be head over heels for someone. "To be head over heels for somebody" means that you're really interested in them. Maybe you've just met them, and you can't stop thinking about them—first love, butterflies in your stomach sort of thing. That's kind of an idiom too, I suppose. "He was head over heels for the girl that he met at the party the week before." We're building a story here. We're building a story here. Oh, no! Our story, what's gonna happen next in our story?
To be head over heels for someone(墜入愛河)。To be head over heels for somebody 指的是你對他們真的很有興趣。或許你才剛認識他們,但你無法不去想他們--初戀、小鹿亂撞的感覺之類的。那好像也算一個片語吧,我想。「他完全愛上了上星期在派對上認識的那個女孩。」我們在說一個故事囉。我們在說一個故事囉。噢不!我們的故事,故事接下來會有什麼發展?
To be on the rocks. This phrase means "to be having problems in your relationship." It means that you're struggling or having trouble. In a sentence, "My friend told me about that girl that he met at the party last weekend. And he said they went out for a few dates"—wow, this is all happening so fast. "They went out for a few dates and now they're on the rocks."
To be on the rocks(瀕臨破裂)。這個片語的意思是「在感情中出現問題」。這代表你正在掙扎或有麻煩了。在句中運用,「我朋友跟我聊他上週末在派對上認識的那個女生。他說他們出去約會幾次了」--哇,進展真快。「他們出去約過幾次會,但現在感情出現問題了。」
Next is "to be an item." "To be an item" just means "to be in a relationship with somebody." You're officially in a relationship with someone, and your friends might say, "You're an item now." To continue our little story, "Even though my friend said he was on the rocks with that girl he met at the party a few weeks ago, it seems that they are now an item." This is weird. This is really weird.
下一個片語是 to be an item(戀愛中)。To be an item 就代表「和某人戀愛中」。你正式和某人交往,你的朋友們可能就會說:「你現在死會囉。」繼續我們的小故事,「雖然我朋友說他和幾星期前派對上認識的女孩感情觸礁了,他們現在似乎正在穩定交往。」真怪。這真的很怪。
The next one is "to pop the question." "To pop the question" means "to ask someone to marry you." Yeah. "Remember that girl that my friend met at the party, like, a couple years ago? Yeah, he finally popped the question to his girlfriend." It means he asked her to marry him.
下一個是 to pop the question(求婚)。To pop the question 的意思是「要某人嫁給你」。沒錯。「記得我朋友大概幾年前在派對上認識的那個女孩嗎?嗯,他終於向他女朋友求婚了。」這代表他要女朋友嫁給他。
The next one is "to tie the knot." "To tie the knot" means "to get married." So two people come together and tie a knot. They won't be separated, in other words. So, maybe this is the end of our story. I don't know. "So, my friend ended up tying the knot with the girl that he met at the party a few years ago."
下一個片語是 to tie the knot(結婚)。To tie the knot 表示「結為連理」。兩個人在一起然後結為連理。換句話說就是,他們不會分開了。那麼,或許這就是我們故事的結局。我不知道。「我朋友最後和他幾年前在派對上認識的女孩結婚了。」
End! I don't know what to say. I feel like I should wrap up that story, but I'm not gonna. So, those are some actually pretty useful words and phrases that you can use to talk about relationships. Give them a try with some people that you know.
結束!我不知道要說什麼。我覺得好像得替那個故事畫下完美的句點,不過我沒有要那樣做。那麼,那些是一些你可以用來討論愛情,其實滿實用的詞和片語。試著和認識的人這樣說吧。
