The Ugly Duckling
醜小鴨
A little duckling was very sad because he thought he was the ugliest amongst all his brothers and sisters. They would not play with him and teased the poor ugly duckling. One day, he saw his reflection in the water and cried, "Nobody likes me! I am so ugly!" He decided to leave home and went far away into the woods.
有一隻小鴨很悲傷，因為他認為他在兄弟姊妹中長得最醜陋。他們不和他玩，還嘲笑這隻可憐的醜小鴨。有一天，他在水中看見他的倒影後，喊著：「沒人喜歡我!我好醜!」他決定離開家，並走得遠遠的，到森林裡去。
Deep in the forest, he saw a cottage, in which there lived an old woman, her hen, and her cat. The duckling stayed with them for some time, but he was unhappy there and soon left.
在森林深處，他看到一間農舍，裡頭住著一位老奶奶、她的母雞和她的貓。小鴨與他們一起住了一陣子，但他在那裡不快樂，很快就離開了。
When winter set in, the poor duckling almost froze to death. A peasant took him home to his wife and children. The poor duckling was terrified of the children and escaped. The ugly duckling spent the winter in a marshy pond. Finally, spring arrived!
冬天來臨時，可憐的醜小鴨幾乎快凍死了。一位農夫將他帶回家給他的妻子和小孩。可憐的醜小鴨很怕農夫的小孩，然後就逃走了。醜小鴨整個冬天都待在沼澤。終於，春天來了!
One day, the duckling saw a beautiful swan swimming in the pond and fell in love with her. But then he remembered how everyone made fun of him, and he bent his head down in shame. When he saw his own reflection in the water, he was astonished! He was not an ugly duckling anymore but a handsome young swan! Now, he knew why he looked so different from his brothers and sisters. "They were ducklings, but I was a baby swan," he said to himself.
有一天，醜小鴨看到一隻美麗的天鵝在池塘裡游泳，並愛上了她。但接著他想起每個人是怎麼嘲笑他的，然後他羞愧地低下頭。當他看見自己在水中的倒影時大吃一驚!他不再是醜小鴨了，而是一隻帥氣、年輕的天鵝!現在，他終於知道自己為什麼和他的兄弟姊妹長得那麼不一樣了。「他們是鴨子，但我當時是一隻天鵝寶寶。」他對自己說。
He married the beautiful swan and lived happily ever after.
他和那隻美麗的天鵝結了婚，永遠過著幸福快樂的日子。
