The 2.0 update came with a lot of stuff. I am completely overwhelmed. When the update dropped, I ran around doing a hundred things without actually doing anything and then lost track of what I was doing because something else cool caught my eye. So, what's the best thing to do? What should you prioritize? What do you need to do ASAP to make sure you can get the most out of the update?

If the update doesn't happen automatically for you, go to your home screen, hit plus, update software, and then from Internet. After that, you should be good to go. Once you get through Isabelle telling you actual news...Thanks, Isabelle. I know socks are important, but this was a nice change of pace. One of the first things you need to do is head over to Blathers. He should have a thought bubble prompting you to talk to him. Once you do, he'll live up to his name and tell you about how he wants to expand the museum and add a cafe, but he's trying to find his old friend, Brewster, to run it. He'll tell you about the Gyroids and guess that Brewster is probably exploring, trying to find more, and Kapp'n will be able to bring you to him.

If Blathers doesn't inform you about any of this, then you may have not met the requirements. You need to have unlocked K.K. Slider, upgraded the museum to include the art exhibit, donated at least one of each type of specimen: fossil, fish, sea creature, bug, and art, be the island representative, and make sure you're playing solo. So, you aren't using the co-op feature or playing online with a friend.

Once Blathers finishes his spiel, head over to Kapp'n on your dock, Venmo him with a thousand Nook Miles, and be on your way to a new mystery island. Once you arrive, talk to Brewster and check out the mystery island of it. There are reports of Gyroid fragments being found buried here, so make sure you're paying attention to what's available on this brand-new island.

After that, head back to Blathers on your island and let him know you've found Brewster. You must do this step, or the museum will not start construction. It takes an entire day for the cafe to be built, so don't skip this; do this as soon as possible.

Once the Brewster quest is in progress, the next step is to head over to Harv's Island and start the process of bribing special characters to set up shop. Each shop costs a hundred thousand bells to unlock, and you can only do one per day. My suggestion is to pay off Leif first so you can get access to the new crops as soon as possible. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for Leif to show up on your island in the normal special character rotation.

After you pay off Leif, then it's pretty much up to you who you want to unlock next. Other returning characters have some cool features that come along with them, but none are absolutely necessary to get as soon as possible. Redd is a good one if you like interactive items. His raffle basket returns with new stuff to hold. So, if you're interested in running around your island with cool objects, it's a good one to get.

Once you back home, go grab the DIY Recipes Plus from the Nook Stop with your Nook Miles. This makes it so you can now learn cooking recipes from the cabinet in Nook's Cranny, by fishing up fish, villagers cooking in their houses, and I believe they can also appear in messages in bottles, but my luck has made them impossible to find that way.

After you complete those tasks, everything is...pretty much up to you. I mean, everything is up to you anyway, but, like, you know. Nothing is super time-sensitive except for the daily rotation of Nook Shopping items and this cool duster I found in my Nook's Cranny cabinet. Upgrading your storage is always a good idea especially if you need the extra space. The first expansion costs seven hundred thousand bells, and you'll have to wait until the next day to actually have access to the extra space. And no, this doesn't give you five thousand spaces; it gives you 32 hundred. Have fun continuing to pay off some storage!

You can talk to Nook inside Resident Services to start this process. You do need to have a completely paid-off house and upgrade it to the 24-hundred-storage space level before he'll offer you the 2.0 update storage options. There's a storage DIY that you can get from redeeming Nook Miles. There's also one you can purchase that doesn't require crafting, but you have to wait until the next day to get it in the mail. Again, I believe you need a fully-upgraded house to have access to these.

If you head over to Isabelle, you can set up ordinances on your island. These are the same ones returning from New Leaf. The Bell Boom Ordinance, which makes items sell for more bells but also makes items you want to buy cost more, the Early Bird makes stores open and villagers wake up earlier, Night owl, which makes them stay open later, and the Beautiful Island, which helps weeds, watering of flowers, and reducing trash in the water. Remember you can only have one of these active at a time, so think about which one you want.

Don't forget to update your NookLink if you have Nintendo Switch Online. You may have to go to your title screen, hit minus, and then update the NookLink from there. The new Nook point item should be available to redeem immediately, but there is a cute newspaper app that gives you a summary of everything that happened during the day and will probably require the NookLink update. It's a really cute app, but it does let you know your past turnip prices, which is phenomenal and most likely the only thing I'll end up using it for.
