Good day, I am a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, a royal breed if you will, as I have been a favorite pet of the British Crown for many years. I'm quite smart, if I do say so myself. I love people and will always seek out as much attention as I can. My herding instinct causes me to chase just about anything that moves, which for you, means lots of games of fetch. Also, I'm highly dedicated to my family, and I'm quite well-behaved around children.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis go way back to the 12th century. It's believed that Vikings and Flemish weavers brought my ancestors to Wales. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi's closely related to us, and until recently, we were considered one and the same. We Pembrokes are the more popular of the Corgi breeds, but don't tell the Cardigans. Even Queen Elizabeth II is a Pembroke fan. She has 16 of us.

You're gonna expect us Corgis to live on average between 11 and 12 years. We measure 10 to 12 inches in height and tend to weigh between 24 and 30 pounds. We are herding dogs, bred to drive cattle and sheep, so our short stature works to our advantage—when the livestock tries to kick us, their hooves go right over our heads. Our biggest health concern is obesity, so please don't overfeed us—even if we beg. We're also prone to several genetic disorders, especially those that affect the eyes and hips.

Not unlike other small dogs, I'm eager to please and highly intelligent, so training won't be difficult. But as I was bred to be a working dog, I must stay busy. So if you'd like me to behave, please keep me occupied. My instincts might have me nipping at your ankles in an attempt to herd you, but with time and effort, this can be corrected. I'm happy to live in an apartment or a house, as long as I get my daily exercise. And oh my, do I mean exercise? My small body holds a lot of energy. Because of my short stature, I put on my weight easily; a fencing yard would be ideal, but not necessary.
